International College Counselors Welcomes a New College Advisor South Florida

International College Counselors is thrilled to welcome Jeffrey “Jay” Durso-Finley to our team as a new Director of College Advising. With his extensive experience in college admissions, Jay, a college advisor South Florida, will provide personalized guidance to undergraduate and graduate students navigating the college application process. His expertise will further strengthen our team’s collaborative approach, ensuring that students receive the highest level of support and strategic advice throughout their academic journey. Jeffrey “Jay” Durso-Finley brings over 30 years of admissions experience to International College Counselors, including almost 10 years as a Senior Associate Director of Admission and the Admission-Athletic Liaison at Brown University. At Brown, Jay read and analyzed hundreds of university applicants, evaluating their academic credentials and overall fit for the school. He worked with a diverse range of applicants, including domestic and international students, transfer students, and recruited student-athletes. After his time at Brown, he spent over 20 years as the Director of College Counseling at the Lawrenceville School, a premier boarding school in New Jersey. At Lawrenceville, Jay expertly guided ambitious students representing expansive backgrounds with varied needs through the admissions process of a wide array of colleges and universities, including the “Ivy Plus” schools, the University of California system, military academies, international universities in the UK, Canada, and Australia, and highly selective liberal arts colleges. An avid traveler, Jay has visited all 50 states and over 150 colleges and counting! Additionally, Jay has traveled extensively in Asia, giving him valuable insight into the needs, expectations, and strengths of students from the Pacific Rim. The author of two books, Jay wrote The Secrets of Picking a College (and Getting In!) and drew from his experience helping students navigate the intercollegiate athletic recruiting process to write Understanding Athletic Recruiting: A Comprehensive Guide for the High School Student-Athlete. Jay regularly speaks about the college athletic recruitment process at schools and athletic conferences. Initially trained as a high school English teacher, college advisor South Florida Jay has a particular strength and passion for helping students develop their essays. Leveraging his experience in college admissions, Jay has an eye for what works and what doesn’t in an application. He also derives satisfaction coaching students through the challenging transition of staring at a blank page to writing a powerful essay. After graduating from Dartmouth College, Jay went on to earn three master’s degrees, including Educational Leadership, Secondary School English, and Divinity for Theology. He also earned a Doctorate in Education focusing on higher education leadership. Finally, Jay has proudly shepherded his four children through the college process, so understanding the emotions of a parent and a student’s family is always front and center as he counsels students.
